Founded in 1973, Offshore Europe (OE) is a biennial conference and exhibition that takes place in Aberdeen, Scotland. The event focuses on upstream oil and gas production and has grown into one of the largest events of its kind in Europe. The event attracts visitors and exhibitors from around the world, 108 countries were represented at the 2015 event. SPE Offshore Europe is recognised by offshore E&P professionals as Europe’s leading E&P event.

The exhibition is held across 6 halls with large temporary structures constructed to accommodate such a large number of exhibitors. In previous years Hall 6 has been dedicated to a specific area of the industry that is of particular interest at the time, zones featured include deep-water and Intelligent Energy, which was so popular it developed into its own event. This year Hall 6 featured the Decommissioning Zone for the first time.

The aim of the conference is to bring industry professionals together in one place in order to share experiences and showcase new services and products. There are a vast number of exhibitors which allow for enhanced understanding of what happens in the offshore industry.

The offshore oil industry has been experience a significant downturn in recent years, but it certainly felt this year at OE that there was more optimism in the market than there had been previously. Companies were talking about ‘green shoots of recovery’ and investment starting to come back into the sector.

Infoplaza met a number of exciting companies during OE that offered potential opportunities for business. The majority as usual were involved with upstream activities such as exploration, drilling and production. However, we also made contact with a number of companies that were starting to diversify into the renewables sector (specifically offshore wind) and specialised survey companies who were using drone technology to survey offshore platforms.
